Jump! (2007)

IMDB rating: 5.90

Plot: JUMP is a psychological drama revealing for the first time the extraordinary circumstances behind the unjust murder trial of the young Jew, Philippe Halsman, who would later become the most sought after celebrity portrait photographer of his generation. Set in 1928 Austria during the rise of fascism, the story documents the corrupt relationship between Philippe and his father, the events leading to his father’s death, and focuses a sharp but delicate eye upon the anti-Semitic atmosphere that quickly led to Philippe’s conviction. On a September afternoon in the heart of the picturesque Alps, two Latvian tourists, 22-yr old Philippe Halsman, a soft-spoken, compassionate engineering student and his overbearing father Morduch undertook a hiking tour. Though he loved his father deeply, the seething dynamic between them never allowed this affection to surface. By the end of the day, Morduch Halsman, a stubborn, aggressive, well-to-do dentist, determined to “make a man” of his son by the brute force of physical labor, was dead. Philippe maintained that his father had fallen and was still alive when he ran for help, but when he returned, his father’s body lay face down, his head split open with an ax, his blood and belongings strewn about the area. With vague circumstantial evidence pointing to Philippe, he was immediately arrested and charged with patricide. No one wanted to defend an outsider, let alone a Jew, and the local community hoped for a speedy trial that would wash their hands of the monstrous act. Deliberately uninformed of his rights, Philippe was left in the dark of his cold cell until his mother and sister, alerted to the crisis, managed to procure a lawyer from the Jewish quarter in Vienna. With no time to prepare his case, Philippe and his passionate lawyer were left scrambling as the trial began. While witnesses steered their testimony towards a guilty verdict, and while the courtroom saw such gruesome evidence as Morduch’s head, severed from his body by local autopsists, Philippe found himself so alienated he could not even bring himself to help his own cause. Enraged that the trial was conducted with such hostility towards him, he sat brooding with anger, given to frequent outbursts of frustration. In a mere four days, the highly-charged, emotional trial came to a close. Though no evidence or any clear motive had been established, the deliberation was over as soon as it began. Philippe Halsman was convicted of patricide and sentenced to ten years in prison thus becoming the first Jewish victim of the incipient anti-Semitism of National Socialism. Not until well-known international figures such as Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud and Thomas Mann rallied to his cause, demanding a fair trial, was Philippe freed. Under the condition that he never return to Austria, he made his way out of the country harboring the darkest of wounds. Not only was he never allowed to properly grieve his father’s death, but he would forever be haunted by visions of his falling father, of the severed head, and the black hole of his own memory, filled with doubt, guilt and grief. Though he never spoke publicly about that fateful summer, its influence was sharply felt in the photography that would soon make Philippe famous. Commissioned by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Brando, Picasso, Nixon and the Kennedys, Halsman turned formal fashion shots into serious investigations of character. Engaging his subjects in disarming chatter, he would often ask them to jump, which he believed would free them of their postures and defenses. “When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears.” From surrealist flourishes such as headless bodies or bodiless heads, to “jumpology”, which would become his trademark, Philippe pursued his quest to uncover the hidden truths behind the masks of his subjects. But only in private would he turn this investigation upon himself. It seems that Philippe was able to witness his father’s true character in that horrible moment so many years ago, and perhaps, in doing so, was able to love him in absolute. But as to the question of murder, obscured by the trauma of the moment and the whirlwind of prejudice in its aftermath, Philippe himself was rendered impotent to answer.

Why is facebook so popular?
I mean honestly why does everyone feel the need to have one? Almost everyone that had a myspace just jumped ship to facebook but why? Its essentially the exact same thing and i just don’t see how people have the time for it.

one word-stalkers.
H20: your footprints | Feb 06, 2010

It’s simple.

People want to chat with their friends, and since a friend uses facebook, then another friend will do the same, and picture this with the world.
Digital Friend | Feb 06, 2010

More people have Facebook then anything else. So their friends see them on it and they think it’s cool s they want to get one. And it just spreads from there.
Also, like i said before, more people have facebook then myspace because a lot of people think it’s safer and so when someone has a friend that lives far away, they can add each other and talk on that if they both don’t have myspace.

I have both facebook and myspace, and i do admit they are almost exactly alike. But none of my friends have myspace, so i don’t really go on it. But if i had more friends on there, then yeah i would be using it more than Facebook probably.

Hi, Need Some Good Jpop Songs (Please Read the Details Before Answering)?
I’m into kpop and I like many artists. Are there any good jpop songs/artists similar to kpop?

All the songs, I’ve heard so far, except DBSK’s Break Out, have been sort of/very disappointing compared to other songs (ie. Heaven by Ayumi).

I have heard Fall in Love by Aoyama ft. Taeyang. It was okay, but anything better?

I like:

Taeyang
K.Will
Outsider
Epik High
May Doni
Dok2
Rain (some of his songs like Love Story and How to Avoid the Sun)
2PM
2AM
Big Bang
C.N. Blue
Beast
It’s You by Super Junior
Tell Me Why- Untouchable
DBSK
Drunken Tiger

And please refrain from recommending the overly processed bubblegum-pop kind of things. Those are okay and some of them are good but they aren’t for prolonged periods of listening (ie. SNSD’s Gee, Wonder Girls’s Nobody)
Normal pop is fine.

Ideas for things that are trippy/strange/weird?
This is my new project..I’m going to do something quite ambitious…I really want to write a book, I want the main aim of the novel to be that while reading it, everything feels a little trippy…like quite random and really strange, but not SO random that it feels childish….I want it to be aimed at teenage and young adult readers, not children initially.
I’m thinking trippy like Alice In wonderland, james and the giant peach, the lion the witch and the wardrobe, the wizard of oz, THAT level of trippyness xD

Please can you give some ideas/websites/books/songs that might help me get further inspiration?

xD thank you very much, I appreciate any help xx
Thank you, every little helps xD

Haha, I like the idea of being trippy. ;)

I’m a big music fan so I listen to a lot of different things and I don’t know if these are necessarily trippy, if not drunk-ish, but I’ll recommend them anyway.

If you know of artists who are into the like, 60s or 70s hippie peace thing or actually like to do drugs then they should help. Listen to Ke$ha (she’s more drunk-ish), Goldfrapp (I think electronica-type music is a little out-there), Bjork, Adam Lambert, David Bowie, Lights, Mika, mostly alternative, indie music.

Good luck!

Roxanne
Roxanne (1987)

IMDB rating: 6.60

Plot: This is a remake of Cyrano de Bergerac, one of the most celebrated plays of the French theater, written by Edmond Rostand. Instead of being set in 17th century France, “Cyrano” has been changed to “Charlie”, a fire chief in a small town in Washington. Roxanne, played by the beautiful Darryl Hanna, rents a house for the summer to look at comets and Charlie quickly falls for her. Charlie is intelligent, funny, and sensitive, but all his fine qualities are unfortunately overshadowed by his very large nose (”Excuse me, it that your nose or did a bus park on your face?”). Charlie’s friend, Chris, on the other hand, is quite attractive, but superficial and awkward with words, especially around women (he has a tendency to throw up a lot). Both men are enthralled with Roxanne, but she, in a shallow but predictable move, shows interest in the handsome Chris. Chris is tongue-tied around her — everything that comes out of his mouth is either vulgar or indecipherable. So he asks Charlie for help. Charlie, inspired, writes 3 love letters a day to Roxanne, unbeknownst to Chris. Charlie’s eloquent letters work, because Roxanne falls in love with Chris. But Chris can’t meet Roxanne’s expectations in person and he soon runs off with a waitress who is “pretty cute, too”.

Please interpret my dream about Roxxi from Ghost Rider kicking Joker from Batman's arse!?
I had this dream, Johnny Blaze got married to Roxanne and had kids, but then Two-Face and the Joker wanna mess with him, so they kidnap the kids from the house at night. With the help of one of the Joker’s henchmen (he’s kinda like… 23) Roxxi goes after them to some kind of drive- through restraunt. She’s got Joker’s car, and it’s FREEZING outside, like snow and ice, but then he knocks her and the henchman out. They wake up back at the house, and Roxxi’s wearing a light pink leotard and stilletos.(me:?) She goes and girly-runs to the garage and trips on the ice, but her heels like have superpowers and are unbreakable. So they trick Joker and Roxxi gets him pretty good with the heels, but when she wakes up, Johnny’s getting tied up by Two-Face! She is like, "if you mess with my babies, you get mauled by the momma" and starts to get REAL mad. She tries to stand with the heels, but falls down so she crawls over to Johnny and stars to beat him senseless! She says, "It’s all your fing fault!" and cusses so much, then when she’s done like knocked him out, she looks at Two-Face and Joker, and says, "You b**** es are next." And that was the end.
Can SOMEONE tell me what this weird dream means?

When workers take charge??????!111111?
It’s a unique model - the worker-owned business. Some say it sounds like socialism, but these six companies say it’s helped them tough out the recession.
1 of 6

We Can Do It!

Worker-owners from the We Can Do It! co-op went to Washington recently to participate in the Hispanic Caucus Public Policy conference. From left to right: Teresa Perez, Margarita Pavon, Inocente Ponce, Daniela Salazar, Alicia Chavez, Patricia Mora, Monica Valerio and Luz Maria Hernandez.
In 2006, Latina immigrants in Brooklyn, N.Y. formed a housekeepers’ co-op to avoid exploitation, according to Vanessa Bransburg, cooperative coordinator of the Center for Family Life. With the help of the community organization, 19 women from Mexico and the Dominican Republic formed We Can Do It!, or Si Se Puede!, a slogan used by organized workers in Latin American and California.
"A lot of these people really had the entrepreneurial spirit, but a lot of them don’t really have up to high school education, so they weren’t able to get a traditional job," said Bransburg. "Instead of following somebody else’s rules, they wanted to be the bosses."
The Center acts as their agent, with 100% of the cleaning fees going to the workers, who pay $40 in monthly dues to cover marketing costs. The organization has spun off two other worker co-ops: Beyond Care, with 19 child care workers, and Emigre Gourmet, a cooking collective.
All the worker-owners have equal control over marketing and they develop their own relationships with their clients, said Bransburg. "With all of this happening, they’ve been able to withstand the recession and even grow in the last few months," she said.

when you say it sounds like socialism, you are right, it is socialism at its core

the main failing woth socialism is the greedy and lazy nature of man (otherwise socialism would be the best form of economy)

these businesses work because all the members contriubute to the cause and none seek to take control of the profit or to benefit while other do their work
this is an interesting disscustion but your not asking a question
CT (Arakiel The Distorter) | Sep 18, 2009

When workers take charge of what - something they own or something someone else owns?

Anyone is welcome to take charge of something THEY own. Usually these "workers take charge" movements involve, oops, taking the means of production away from those who earned them and/or built them, and own them. It’s simple thuggery, theft.

Cannot transfer files from Computer to IPod?
I have an IPod classic 160GB, that I like very much.

But I cannot seen to transfer some items that I bought from the ITunes store.

These Are 2 episodes from Comedy central Presents, & The animated shorts "HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS/HORTON HEARS A WHO

I know that they would be filed under TV Shows. I have tried unchecking them in my library, re-syncing my IPod, then checking them, & re syncing again, but I still can’t get them transferred. I still have plenty of space in my IPod, so that is not the problem. I just can’t get them transferred. I can only watch them from my computer

I like the iPod Classic way kewl. Have you thought of backing up the data from the Classic to the iTunes. Then doing a Forced Recovery it won’t hurt any thing doing that steps and that could resolve it. Now backing it up is always a great idea, prevents other issues.

Have you checked on what version of firmware you are using on the Classic and software for iTunes?

Force Recovery
1. turn on computer.
2. turn on iTunes.
3. plug cable into computer.
4. hold down the white circle button.
5. plug the cable into the Classic.
6. this will start the Force Recovery.

Updated the Firm ware on the Classic can resolve the issue. Because if its not current and you have updated the iTunes to the newest it can cause the issue. I think its planned by Apple so you are forced to pay for the update on the iPod’s. With there iPhones the updates to their firmware is free.

btw.. I know the iPhone better than the iPods.
